Sodium Tripolyphosphate (STPP)

Na₅P₃O₁₀CAS 7758-29-4E451(i)INS 451(i) Food GradeIndustrial GradeFeed Grade

Sodium tripolyphosphate is the industry-standard moisture binder for processed meat and frozen seafood — improving water retention, yield, and texture. Waking Lion has produced STPP since 1958, when we created China's first independently developed STPP, and today manufactures food, industrial, and feed grades plus instant (fast-dissolving) types on dedicated production lines.

  • Manufacturer since 1952 — batch-level Certificate of Analysis (COA) on every shipment
  • Long-term supply contracts with committed monthly allocations, insulated from spot-market swings
  • Third-party pre-shipment inspection (SGS / BV) welcomed on request

Applications

Frozen Seafood

Soaking and glazing of shrimp, fillets, and scallops — reduces drip loss and protects texture through freeze-thaw cycles. Instant STPP available for cold-water dissolution.

Processed Meat

Brine injection and tumbling for ham, sausage, and poultry — improves water retention, sliceability, and cooking yield.

Pet Food & Other

Palatability and moisture control in pet food; dispersant and builder applications in industrial grade (ceramics, detergents, drilling fluids).

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between food grade and industrial grade STPP?

Food grade STPP complies with GB 1886.335-2021 / FCC with strict limits on arsenic, lead, and fluoride, and is manufactured on dedicated food-grade lines under HACCP. Industrial grade follows industry standards with wider tolerances and is not permitted in food processing.

What is instant (fast-dissolving) STPP?

A modified low-temperature grade engineered to dissolve rapidly in cold or salt water — designed for seafood processors preparing soaking solutions without heated mixing tanks. Waking Lion holds an invention patent covering low-temperature salt-water soluble STPP.

What is the maximum permitted dosage of STPP in food?

Limits vary by country and food category — for example, EU Regulation 1333/2008 sets limits for E451 by category, and the US allows use under FCC/GRAS conditions. Total phosphate limits usually apply to the combined phosphates in the formula. Ask our technical team for guidance on your target market.

What documentation do you provide with each shipment?

Batch-level COA, and on request: TDS, certificates (ISO 9001, ISO 22000, BRC, FDA registration, Halal, Kosher), health certificate, certificate of origin, and third-party pre-shipment inspection (SGS/BV).

What is the minimum order quantity and lead time?

Typical MOQ is one full 20' container (25 MT). Production lead time is usually 10–15 days after order confirmation, subject to schedule. Long-term contracts receive committed monthly allocations.
